Currently residing in the Bay Area, Mark W. Schwartz, PhD, serves as executive director of the privately-held San Diego based biotechnology company Targazyme and instructs biotechnology students as a faculty member of San Jose State University. He previously served on the Board of the Biotechnology Industry Association and the governing board for Emerging Companies Section (ECS). Mark W. Schwartz, PhD, also co-chaired the ECS’s Health and Regulatory Committee.
Mr. Schwartz previously served as chief executive officer and president of multiple pharmaceutical and therapeutic research companies, including Bayhill Therapeutics in Palo Alto and Calyx Therapeutics in Hayward, California. He embarked on his career in the early 1980s as a diagnostics research scientist with E.I. DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware.
Outside of the professional environment, Mark W. Schwartz is a hockey enthusiast who both plays and coaches the sport. He also enjoys reading, studying history, boating and wakeboarding.
